Hegseth Causes Another Pentagon Scandal For Trump

Rep. Don Bacon said that there was a brief one-day pause in U.S. cyber operations against Russian targets, describing it as a standard part of ongoing negotiations, though he declined to elaborate further on the context of the talks. He confirmed the temporary halt while speaking on the matter, noting it was short and likely tied to diplomatic efforts happening at the time.

The timing of the pause appears to coincide with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the White House, where he was negotiating a critical minerals agreement with President Trump. The meeting reportedly became tense, and the deal ultimately did not move forward.

Requests for comment from the Pentagon and Cyber Command regarding the nature and timing of the pause have not yet been answered.

Meanwhile, controversy surrounding Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth continues to escalate following another leak from an internal Signal chat. In early March, the Department of Defense Rapid Response team publicly stated that Hegseth had not canceled or delayed any cyber operations targeting Russia, denying any kind of stand-down order had been issued.

During a House hearing on Friday, Rep. Eugene Vindman referenced that March statement and challenged its accuracy in light of Bacon’s confirmation. Vindman labeled the Pentagon’s earlier claim “an outright lie,” suggesting the situation is more complicated than previously portrayed.
