GOP Senator Backstabs Trump

Senator Murkowski Condemns White House’s Handling of Ukraine Crisis

Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska strongly criticized the Trump administration following a tense and highly publicized meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office. The meeting, broadcast by the American press, has sparked widespread concern about the future of U.S. support for Ukraine.

“This week began with administration officials refusing to acknowledge that Russia was responsible for starting the war in Ukraine. Now, it’s ending with a disturbing and confrontational discussion in the Oval Office, along with troubling reports that the White House may be considering cutting off all U.S. aid to Ukraine,” Murkowski stated in a Saturday post on X.

“I understand that foreign policy is complex and often difficult, but I find myself deeply disturbed by what I’m seeing. The administration appears to be distancing itself from our allies while moving closer to Putin—an authoritarian leader who stands in direct opposition to democracy and the values we hold dear as Americans.”

Murkowski’s remarks are particularly striking as a Republican voice pushing back against her own party’s leadership. Her criticism aligns with that of numerous international leaders who have condemned the Oval Office meeting as a dramatic shift away from America’s longstanding role as a defender of democracy.

During the discussion, President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance chastised Zelensky, claiming he had not shown sufficient appreciation for U.S. security assistance. This criticism came despite Zelensky’s recent public expression of gratitude in a February post on X, where he praised the administration’s efforts to support peace in Eastern Europe.

In recent weeks, the president has repeatedly excluded Zelensky from key peace negotiations, arguing that the Ukrainian leader has “no leverage” to bring an end to the ongoing war. Following the heated exchange in the Oval Office, the administration doubled down on its position, suggesting that Ukraine should elect new leadership to help stabilize the country and reduce conflict.

The latest developments have deepened concerns about the direction of U.S. foreign policy, particularly regarding its commitment to supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
