Fox News Defends Ocasio-Cortrez

On Monday, Jonathan Turley, a legal analyst for Fox News, criticized the potential legal action against Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) over her involvement in an immigration webinar.

During a segment on Fox News, former Border Patrol Chief Tom Homan suggested that Ocasio-Cortez might face prosecution for organizing a “Know Your Rights” webinar aimed at individuals accused of being in the country illegally. Turley voiced his concern, stating that such a prosecution would infringe upon free speech rights, emphasizing that it could set a dangerous precedent.

Turley mentioned that while Ocasio-Cortez has not been known as a staunch advocate for free speech, it is crucial for those who value the First Amendment to stand up against such potential threats.

The controversy began when Ocasio-Cortez hosted a webinar on her Facebook page, offering guidance to individuals interacting with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Homan questioned the implications of the webinar, suggesting it could hinder law enforcement efforts, and hinted at the possibility of legal repercussions.

In response, Ocasio-Cortez mockingly addressed Homan’s comments on a social media platform, adding fuel to the ongoing debate.
