DNC Launches Milwaukee Billboards Highlighting Trump’s Alleged Comments
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is set to unveil billboards across Milwaukee on Friday, spotlighting former President Trump’s purported criticism of the city, which will host the Republican National Convention next month.
Why It Matters
Trump allegedly described Milwaukee as “horrible” during a private meeting with House Republicans on Capitol Hill, a claim that his campaign and GOP lawmakers have contested. They assert that Trump’s remarks were directed at crime in the city, not the city itself. Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung clarified that the former president was addressing “how terrible crime and voter fraud are.”
Democratic Response
Seizing the opportunity, the Biden campaign and other Democrats have used Trump’s alleged comments to rally support. President Biden shared a photo on the social media platform X, stating, “I happen to love Milwaukee.” Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers also chimed in on X, adding, “add it to the list of things Donald Trump is wrong about.”
Campaign Efforts
Biden’s campaign is heavily investing in Wisconsin, a critical battleground state he won by fewer than 21,000 votes in 2020. The billboards, placed in 10 strategic locations across Milwaukee, will highlight Trump’s alleged statement, “Milwaukee, where we are having our convention, is a horrible city,” as reported by Punchbowl News. Additionally, some billboards will feature a social media post from Punchbowl News’ Jake Sherman.
Statements from the DNC
Abhi Rahman, DNC Deputy Communications Director, stated, “Donald Trump has made his contempt for Wisconsinites and their home clear. The dislike is mutual – in 2020, Wisconsin handed Trump a one-way ticket back to exile in Mar-a-Lago and sent President Biden to the Oval Office.” Rahman further emphasized, “Trump hates Milwaukee because Milwaukeeans know exactly who he is – a sore loser who they’re going to make a two-time loser this November.”
The DNC’s billboard campaign underscores the ongoing political battle in Wisconsin and aims to leverage Trump’s controversial remarks to galvanize Democratic support in the state.
