Dems Pick Their 2028 Candidate

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is emerging as one of the most vocal critics of President Trump within the Democratic Party, intensifying speculation about his future political ambitions. His rhetoric has sharpened in recent weeks, signaling both a deepening clash with Trump and a strategic effort to raise his national profile.

During a speech in New Hampshire last month, Pritzker went on the offensive, portraying Trump as someone who “claims to love America but who hates our military.” He also didn’t hold back in calling out Republican lawmakers, accusing them of being ineffective and disengaged. The speech, delivered in a key early primary state, attracted attention not only for its substance but also for the symbolism, as Pritzker tested his message beyond Illinois.

Adding fuel to the speculation, his campaign recently launched a video series aimed at highlighting what it claims are the damaging effects of Trump administration policies on the lives of everyday Illinoisans. The videos are expected to run across multiple platforms and focus on issues such as healthcare, education, and reproductive rights areas where Pritzker has built his record in Illinois.

The messaging has drawn praise from within the Democratic ranks, particularly for its blend of attack and aspiration. Ray Buckley, chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, called Pritzker’s approach a “one-two punch,” saying he not only forcefully pushes back against Trump but also promotes a positive vision rooted in Democratic values. Buckley said the governor’s appeal lies in his ability to show that “we support our values, we stand up for our values, that we speak for those who need a voice, we don’t leave anybody behind.”

Although Pritzker has long been involved in Democratic politic even before his successful bid for governor his elevated role in the Trump opposition has brought him renewed visibility. His willingness to take bold positions and offer Democrats a playbook for confronting Trump has made him an increasingly prominent figure within the party. As discussions about the 2028 presidential race begin to simmer, Pritzker’s name continues to surface among those seen as serious contenders, especially if the Democratic field remains unsettled.

His recent moves suggest a leader not content to simply manage state affairs, but one preparing to play on a larger stage.
