Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) unleashed a scathing and highly personal critique of President Donald Trump during a Sunday appearance on MSNBC’s “Alex Witt Reports,” suggesting that the president’s behavior is so erratic, he belongs in an “insane asylum.” Her comments, while unapologetically blunt and far from politically correct, quickly captured attention for their intensity and sharp delivery.
Reacting to Trump’s recent commencement speech at West Point, in which he veered off into tangents about “trophy wives,” transgender athletes, and the numerous legal cases against him, Crockett didn’t hold back. “He literally sounds like someone who has broken out of the insane asylum,” she said. “Like he’d just be all over the place. Like, get him some ADHD medicine, if nothing else, because I don’t know where he’s ever gonna go.”
Crockett went on to say that West Point graduates deserved far more dignity and focus from their commander in chief. “I don’t think that those that have gone through West Point expected to have their commander in chief address them and start talking about trophy wives, or start talking about how he had so many investigations,” she said. “What a great reminder that you are not qualified to be the person that potentially will command us as troops to go into war.”
She continued, arguing that Trump’s chaotic remarks and ongoing legal issues should disqualify him from holding office. “That is not instilling confidence whatsoever. And honestly, our troops deserve better. Our graduates deserve better. We as a country deserve better. And frankly, if we are going to ever be seen as the world leaders that we historically have been, the world deserves better.”
Crockett then called on Republicans to stop making excuses for Trump and begin publicly questioning his mental fitness for office. “It is time for Republicans to start calling him out and start questioning his mental acuity and whether or not he is equipped to serve mentally,” she said. “We know when it comes down to his criminality, he is not qualified to serve, but this is just deplorable.”
She also took a jab at the Trump administration’s media strategy, criticizing the hiring of former Fox News personalities. “Frankly, it is sad that we do have to go through this kind of political theater because, listen, we all know what it is that’s why they hired everybody from Fox News because all they’re trying to do is put on for a show,” she said. “This is not The Apprentice show.”
While her comments lit up social media, many political observers noted that Crockett’s fiery rhetoric reflects a broader frustration among Democrats who believe Trump’s behavior particularly in formal, high-stakes settings continues to erode public trust and international credibility. Her remarks may push the boundaries of decorum, but they underscore a growing chorus of concerns about Trump’s mental and emotional readiness to lead.
