Clooney Calls Biden Best Since George Washington

Actor George Clooney recently expressed deep admiration for President Biden’s decision to withdraw from the presidential race, calling it “the most selfless thing” since George Washington’s leadership. Clooney made these remarks during the premiere of his new film “Wolfs” at the Venice Film Festival, where he spoke about Biden’s choice to step down.

In July, Clooney wrote an opinion piece for The New York Times, urging the 81-year-old president to consider stepping aside due to concerns about his age and the demands of the office. When asked about the impact of his editorial, Clooney noted that he hadn’t yet been asked that question but reiterated his respect for Biden’s decision.

Clooney told reporters that President Biden should be commended for his selflessness, comparing it to George Washington’s actions in stepping down from power. He emphasized that while the behind-the-scenes political maneuvers might be forgotten, what should stand out is Biden’s selfless act of putting the country first.

“It’s incredibly difficult to let go of power,” Clooney said. “We’ve seen leaders around the world struggle with that. But for someone to say, ‘I think there’s a better way forward,’ that deserves all the credit.”

Clooney’s July op-ed, in which he urged Biden to step aside, made waves in Hollywood and among political circles. This came shortly after Clooney hosted a high-profile fundraiser for Biden, underscoring the significance of his public call for the president to withdraw from the race.

After Biden announced his decision to step down, Clooney praised him for demonstrating true leadership and “saving democracy once again.” He also expressed his enthusiastic support for Vice President Harris’s bid for the presidency, stating that he and many others are eager to do whatever they can to support her in her historic quest.
