Chris Christie Suggests Trump Should Have Skipped Golf to Go Through Classified Documents

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie criticized former President Donald Trump on Tuesday for saying that he was too busy to go through boxes of classified documents after being subpoenaed by a grand jury.

“Maybe he should have skipped a couple of rounds of golf,” Christie said on CBS Mornings. “I mean, does anybody in America believe that he was so busy that he couldn’t go through the boxes and find the classified documents?”

Trump has said that he did not have time to go through the boxes because he was “very busy” and needed to get his golf shirts and pants out of them. However, Christie said that this explanation is “not credible.”

“He had time to go golfing,” Christie said. “He had time to do a lot of things. He just didn’t have time to go through the boxes and find the classified documents.”

Christie’s comments come as Trump is facing legal scrutiny for his handling of classified documents. He is facing a subpoena from the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th attack on the Capitol, and he could face criminal charges if he does not comply.

Trump has denied any wrongdoing. However, the legal scrutiny he is facing is likely to continue for some time.

Christie’s criticism of Trump is not the first time that the former president has been accused of mishandling classified documents. In 2021, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) revealed that Trump had taken classified documents with him to Mar-a-Lago after leaving office. NARA later recovered some of the documents, but others are still missing.

The allegations against Trump have raised concerns about his commitment to national security. If Trump is found to have mishandled classified documents, he could face serious consequences, including criminal charges.

In addition to the legal scrutiny he is facing, Trump is also facing political pressure. Some Republican lawmakers have called on him to cooperate with the House Select Committee, while others have defended him.

It remains to be seen how the legal and political fallout from the allegations against Trump will play out. However, it is clear that the former president is facing serious challenges.
