Cheney Attacks Trump

Liz Cheney Fires Back at Trump Over Medal Controversy

Former Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) firmly responded to President-elect Donald Trump’s criticism after President Joe Biden awarded her and Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) the Presidential Citizens Medal. The recognition honored Cheney’s work as vice chair of the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack and her service in Congress, as well as Thompson’s dedication to protecting the Constitution.

Trump, on his Truth Social platform, called the awards “fake medals” and labeled Cheney “corrupt,” claiming her recognition stemmed solely from her opposition to him. Cheney, known for her outspoken criticism of Trump, addressed his comments on social platform X, stating, “Donald, this is not the Soviet Union. You can’t change the truth and you cannot silence us.”

Cheney further pointed to Trump’s false claims about the 2020 election, reminding him of the legal defeats, disbarments, and sanctions faced by his allies for attempting to overturn the results. She also referenced former Vice President Mike Pence’s decision to certify the election, ensuring the peaceful transfer of power.

“Remember how your former Vice President prevented you from overturning our Republic?” Cheney remarked. She called on Americans to reject Trump’s “malicious falsehoods” and stand firm to protect the nation’s democratic principles.

As Cheney continues to face criticism from Trump and his supporters, her response underscores her commitment to defending the Constitution and holding those in power accountable.
